Origin, history

This training type is derived from an ancient practice that can be found all around the world. It is sky gazing - looking at the sky with an aim to feel the connection with Something Bigger.
Sky gazing is an "official" practice from the Dzogchen ("great perfection" or "total completeness") tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. This tradition strongly emphasizes the natural perfection of awareness that is already present in all humans. Sky gazing is one of the powerful techniques that helps to notice this awareness in ourselves.
This practice is similar to Star Gazing meditation, but occurs during daytime hours.

Setting the training

  1. Download this pattern if you don't have it yet.
  2. Choose this pattern in Training tab or Control tab.
  3. You might change the settings of this meditation in Control tab and/or Dynamic tab to adjust it for your taste and needs.

Training process

  1. Choose the comfortable position outdoors (or indoors if the ceiling is transparent). Morning or evening sunny sky would be perfect, but don't let clouds ruin your plans for the meditation.
  2. Lean back so you can see the sky so that is fills your field of vision. Make sure your body feels comfortable. If you can't find the way to support your back yet see the wide sky, just lay down.
  3. Contemplate your out-breath with no efforts to control it. Listen to the sound it produces.
  4. Allow your body to relax completely.
  5. Observe the beauty of colors you see.
  6. Let all of your thoughts and feelings to dissolve into the sky, deeper in every breath.
  7. If any new thoughts or tensions come, let them go.
  • NB! Make sure you don't look directly at the sun as it may harm your eyes!

Other questions

How long should I train? How can I combine this pattern with another? Should I always inhale through my nose?
